“We are all ONE thing pretending that we’re not. Trauma is a tangled cord & your duty is to untangle your own cord” – Colin Frangicetto

About This Episode

Today, Daniel chats with musician & painter Colin Frangicetto. Colin presently plays guitar in the alt/experimental rock group Circa Survive, and also makes solo records under the guise Psychic Babble.

Hailing from Langhorne, Pennsylvania, Colin began his musical journey playing in DIY hardcore bands as a teen before moving on to softer shades of the rock ‘n roll spectrum.
Now on a nearly 20 year run with Circa Survive, Colin’s favorite aspect of the experience is the fan-based community, with shades of the Grateful Dead Family, which has spawned amongst the band’s fan base.

They discuss the form and role of the ego, how it perpetuates repetitive behavior, and how entheogen use augments EMPATHY, which is foundational for thriving communities. Also explored is how pain & heartache are universal, how this perspective makes one feel less alone during times of emotional strain, and how music & entheogen use shape this experience.

The analogy of “tracing the chords back to the wall,” as in probing into the roots of one’s inner chaos, is recognized as the best first steps towards personal inner growth.

They also discuss Colin’s recent MDMA assisted therapy treatments, where he was gifted with great insight into the human condition and how it manifests his growth.

They touch on the phenomena of how ego strengthening vs. ego dissolution happens for certain personalities with entheogen use. Daniel calls ‘em “psychedelic resistant strains of ego…..like folks who say wow aren’t I great for realizing that we’re all one!”

Quotes:

Daniel: “Only the ego wants to kill the ego….the ego is an illusional story so how do you kill an imaginary thing….and isn’t the experience of the imaginary thing coming & going also imaginary”
💚😂💚

Colin: “If we could lose some of the attachment to identity & ego, then you just slip into community so much easier”

Daniel: “I think of default construction of the ego, the part that sort of happens (over time), vs. the parts that are co-created consciously (with entheogen use), which makes you more of the person that you want to be”

Colin: “We are all ONE thing pretending that we’re not. Trauma is a tangled cord & your duty is to untangle your own cord”
