“The spell of capitalism is so ingrained in us—people want to march in the streets to fight for their right to endanger their lives for minimum-wage so that OTHER PEOPLE can get disgustingly wealthy.”

About This Episode

Today, host Daniel Shankin reunites with his old pal Gill Landry, the mega talented mournful balladeer, to chat about plant based medicines & creativity, focusing upon inspiration drawn from the well of interconnection.

“Birth is like setting out on a ship that’s eventually gonna sink” 😀

The acknowledgement of the inevitability of one’s own death fill’s Gill with joy and gratitude for life! This perspective inspires & shapes his songwriting.
Explored is the power of “surrending” to this truth, and that this does not imply defeat—that equation is a problem with the Western conception of surrender. Our devotional obsession with WINNING creates a massive blind spot it seems—the corollary for example of humans WINNING over nature would be climate change & it’s negative impact upon civilization— certainly exhibits a LOSING outcome. Irony!

On New World woes: “What’s the difference between yogurt and America? If you leave yogurt alone for two hundred years it’ll develop a CULTURE” 😂
Daniel cites the “Gap-ification”of America”, and how the clothing store The Gap, being in seemingly every town in the county, symbolizes the bland soullessness of our greed-driven corporate monoculture, with the US’s cultural output being the pursuit of profit at the expense of it’s people.

Gill on living in LA: “You hafta be a hypocrite to survive here—there are so many things that you hafta do to survive that you simply DETEST”
But, he had a lot of fun living there.

Explored is the concept of transrationalism: When phenomena such as telekinesis occurs within the natural universe and does not fit into the logical cause & effect structure perceived thru “channel normal.”

“The spell of capitalism is so ingrained in us—people want to march in the streets to fight for their right to endanger their lives for minimum-wage so that OTHER PEOPLE can get disgustingly wealthy.”

The importance of tuning in the eternal qualities of consciousness, in light of today’s turmoil, being a positive coping application.
