Season 1, Episode 5

Santiparro

by | Jun 1, 2020 | Podcast, Season 1

It started with a knighting…the archangel who turned out to be Michael knighted me. The other angel who was speaking to me turned out to be Gabriel…and after that when I’d go to write music and it was like…messages that I wasn’t yet living yet were so beautiful…like seeds that were planted…it’s less like I wrote the songs & more like I’d received them.

About This Episode

Today, Daniel chats with the intrepid musical traveler known as Santiparro. He creates self-described “medicine folk,” a form of psychedelic pop/folk which is much needed to help salve the turmoils of today.
In light of recent BLM protests & subsequent cultural developments, the guys address mentalities of cultural appropriation/colonization & how it relates to the Western descent upon Amazonian shamanism & the conflict that ensues.
They concentrate on the benefit of un-learning cultural constructs as a means to better connect with each-other & how so much of what we perceive as “knowledge” are actually walls which keep us from really connecting with each-other.
Santiparro describes the transformative power of one of his first Ayahuasca journeys where he interacted with two angels who offered guardianship and healing. Prior to this moment, he describes his music as constrictive & “angsty.”
Santiparro also speaks at length about his Folk Medicine fundraising campaign to aid Amazonian indigenous peoples whose plight has been severely compounded by Covid-19 outbreaks (and general systemic oppression).

Quotes:

Santiparro: (on un-learning) It had to do with so many books I’d written throughout the years that were written by white men trying to analyze the world views of other people.  I had to purge all that out because of all the negative assumptions I’d absorbed.

Daniel: Nothing in my life has made me more kind & considerate than plant medicines.

Santiparro: (on his breakthrough transformative Ayahuasca experience) It started with a knighting…the archangel who turned out to be Michael knighted me. The other angel who was speaking to me turned out to be Gabriel…and after that when I’d go to write music and it was like…messages that I wasn’t yet living yet were so beautiful…like seeds that were planted…it’s less like I wrote the songs & more like I’d received them.

Daniel:  (on the path of unlearning) I’m aware that I have a quirky personality and it’s “weird” and it’s sense of humor is sometimes off-color & at the same time there’s this heart that wants to be compassionate and care for people all the time…sometimes they feel at odds & sometimes they don’t!

Daniel: I’m getting a bit long-in-the-tooth for insurrection…it’s a young man’s game. If you wanna have a yogi mindset , you gotta spend more time supporting that which is positive than you do tearing down the negative.
